JASON, an ambitious lawyer in his 30s, should be on top of the world, but his love for short cuts and loop holes has finally come home to roost. About to lose everything, in desperation he has taken on a dangerous client. An organisation he doesn’t understand.
Standing in his bathroom in the dead of night. His lost gaze staring at his fraught reflection. Behind him, another mirror. The two create an infinite corridor of reflections.
I need to talk to you.
Jason’s REFLECTION leaves the mirror through the infinite corridor and enters the bathroom. Jason stumbles backward in fright, breaking a porcelain ornament. Grabbing a shard he points at The Reflection, blood drips as his grip tightens. The Reflection raises his hand, revealing an identical wound… Jason eventually accepts their unfathomable connection.
In the dimly lit kitchen, they bandage their wounds. The Reflection hands Jason his mobile phone – It’s Anna – it then rings, startling Jason. ANNA, Jason’s wife, unaware of the magnitude of his predicament, is trying to arrange their Monday night plans.
You’ll be dead by Sunday.
Behind the mirror, The Reflection has seen possible versions of the future, visions of what may occur. But if Jason represents this client, it always ends the same way. He can save Jason, but he must do everything that The Reflection tells him… Jason must go to a meeting with ANTHONY, his contact to the criminal clients, knowing Anthony can’t be trusted. Placing his faith in The Reflection, Jason prepares to meet Anthony. He shaves, puts on a suit and removes his wedding band. The Reflection waits in the apartment.
On a dark and empty street, Jason enters Anthony’s car. Sensing his reflection was right, his nerves begin to show. Anthony becomes suspicious.
Have you spoken to anyone?
Jason’s heart-rate increases as he spots Anthony’s pistol, a flash of steel inside his jacket… The car creeps down an alley, large commercial bins overflow with rubbish.
A kitchen porter slams open a metal door, blocking the road as she fills a bin. Jason’s breathing becomes heavy as Anthony stops the car. Suppressing his panic, he inches his trembling hand toward the door handle…
Back in Jason’s living room, The Reflection senses the impending catastrophe – Jason must not run. He yanks at his own wrist to pull Jason’s away from the door handle. Leaning his body from his outstretched hand, he defies gravity, trying to force Jason to stay put.
But Jason’s will is too strong.
Jason sprints from the car with Anthony in hot pursuit, reaching for his pistol. Bolting down the alley just in time, he narrowly escapes Anthony’s wrath.
The original plan now in tatters, The Reflection re-enters the mirror portal to see the new permutations of the future. Moments later he re-emerges, knowing what he must do. He quickly packs a holdall.
Jason bursts into the apartment, adrenaline rushing from his escape. The Reflection reveals that Anthony is on his way. Jason is rattled.
They know where I live?!
He must leave immediately, for good. Jason pauses, the realisation dawns on him – Do they know about Anna? Where is she? – The Reflection can’t meet his eyes.
You don’t make it in time.
The worst possible outcome… There must be another way, another version of the future where Anna lives. Jason pleads with The Reflection to go back into the mirror and check again. When he refuses, Jason attacks him but is unable to land a single blow.
Desperate to see a way to save Anna, Jason dashes to the bathroom and enters the mirror portal. The Reflection gives chase, but it’s too late. Jason is gone. The bathroom is empty.
The following morning, we see a figure of Jason exiting a small hotel carrying the holdall.
His apartment now deserted, cardboard and tape cover both mirrors in the bathroom. The portal is closed.
Getting closer, we notice he is unshaven. It is not Jason, but The Reflection. He quickens his pace as he passes a shop front window. Jason chases him manically in the warped reflection of the glass. Trapped in the reflection, Jason screams soundlessly and lunges at the imposter, who ignores him and continues walking.
